How to read estate sale categories

Every Estate Bid Finder listing is tagged with a primary item category and several secondary categories that appear in the on-site inventory. The primary category is the dominant theme — for example, a sale tagged "Furniture" will be heavy on cabinet-grade pieces, while a sale tagged "Jewelry" probably comes from a longtime collector's estate. Secondary categories tell you what else you'll find on the floor, and they're often the source of the best surprises.

Tools, jewelry, and vinyl records are the three categories that draw the largest opening-day crowds. Furniture, antiques, and china tend to be deeper-inventory categories where good pieces can still be found into Saturday afternoon. Vehicles, when listed, almost always sell on opening day — typically by sealed bid handled by the host firm. Coins and sterling silver are usually pulled from the open floor and sold from a glass case at the front of the house, so you'll need to ask the host for a closer look.
