Estate Bid Finder Buyer & Seller Guides for Estate Sales

Hiring an Estate Sale Company

Settling a family estate? Here is how professional estate sale companies work and how to choose one — no referral forms, just straightforward guidance.

What a professional firm does

A full-service estate sale company inventories and stages the home room by room, researches and tags prices on every item, advertises the sale, staffs the doors and checkout, and manages the crowd on sale days. Most firms work on commission — typically 30–45% of gross sales — so you generally pay nothing up front, and the initial walk-through is almost always free.

How to choose a firm

Look for companies that publish photo-documented past sales, clear price guides, and a written contract covering commission, minimum fees, staffing, security, and what happens to unsold items. Ask for two or three recent references, confirm the firm carries liability insurance, and get the settlement timeline in writing — reputable firms pay out within days of the sale closing.

Our seller's guide walks through the whole process in detail, from the first walk-through to final settlement. Estate Bid Finder does not operate a referral network and does not receive commissions from any firm.
